Just south of Portland, Wilsonville surprised us as a global getaway, especially for foodies—and yet, there it is. What looks like a quiet Oregon town unfolds into a world tour of flavor, from soulful Moroccan dishes to classic French fare and hands-on, authentic cooking experiences that span cultures and styles. It’s truly one of the best surprises ever, and we can’t wait to return for more.
Lumière
Situated in Wilsonville’s Charbonneau neighborhood, Lumiére French Inspired Cuisine is almost a secret until you find it—and then wonder why you didn’t discover it sooner. Offering much more than classic French fare, the heartfelt family venture, which opened in the spring of 2025, is led by retired high school math teacher Bill Berry and his son, executive chef Dominic Berry.
“We wanted Lumiére to feel like light (just like it says in the name),” says Bill. “Not intimidating. Not stuffy. Just warm, welcoming, and a little unexpected.” That philosophy carries through the menu. While the kitchen is rooted in French techniques, Dominic intentionally “colors outside of the lines,” offering dishes that may surprise diners who think French food is all foie gras and formality.
With a background in culinary arts from Oregon Culinary Institute and years of hands-on experience, Dominic introduces his own creative twist to every dish.
The menu is seasonally rotated, but beloved staples like steak frites, chicken cordon bleu, ratatouille, and crème Brule stick around alongside innovative, ever-changing dishes. Popular seasonal items include beef bourguignon, bucatini bolognese, and steelhead with risotto.
With both indoor and outdoor seating, spend some time on the patio, a lively centerpiece during the warmer months. Plans to enhance it with lounge furniture and fire pits will make it an even better community gathering spot.
Expanding its reach through special events—soon guests can settle in for live music —and, once a month, wine pairings, like the upcoming Valentine’s Day dinner.
Looking for genuine hospitality that blends technique with heart? Lumiére quietly shines—just waiting to be found.

The kitchen at Middleground Farms
The Kitchen at Middleground Farms has been cultivating more than just gardens, nurturing both crops and community spirit for well over a decade. Owner and professional chef Jessica Hansen started the business in her own backyard on what she refers to as her ’17-acre hobby farm.’ What began with a focus on sustainable and local food has today blossomed into a culinary destination.
Located in the former cow barn converted into a big, beautiful kitchen, approachable classes are taught for participants of all skill levels, creating an environment that feels welcoming rather than intimidating.
Classes designed with a unique focus by the chef team typically accommodate 16 to 20 participants, offering a more intimate, hands-on experience. From pies and tarts to pho, and just about everything in between, there’s always something new simmering. Private gatherings welcome larger groups, and the farm opens for outdoor seating in the warmer months.
While the focus on local and sustainable food remains, the team works closely with neighboring farms. If they can’t grow it themselves, they always look to their neighbors.
Looking to make a deeper connection with food and where it comes from, build kitchen skills, and experience the warmth of the community, Middleground Farms truly offers a seat at the table.
“The most important thing to know is that we love to help you learn more and grow more in your own kitchen,’ adds Korie Ferriola, Private Events Coordinator. “Confidence and our food are wonderful and sometimes fancy, but our attitudes are not—we are just here to welcome you and show you a great time.”

Dar Essalam
Prepare for a truly unexpected food adventure at Dar Essalam, tucked away at the end of the Park Place Complex, where authentic Moroccan flavors intermix with those of North Africa and the Mediterranean.
You may be surprised to learn that it has been a local favorite since 2013, but one bite and it’s easy to see why. Owners Mohammad and Hidaya Adghir have created a space that, once inside, instantly transports you.
From intricate metal and glass pendant lights hanging overhead, casting a warm glow over carved wooden tables and chairs, colorful textiles, and lattice-work screens in shades of blue and gold.
Then it hits you. The scent of spiced meats, fresh-baked flatbreads, and fragrant herbs—all making you question whether you’re still in Oregon at all. We started by dipping warm pita into what was quite possibly the best hummus we’ve ever had. Next up, we savored saffron chicken kabobs, lentil soup, and a variety of marinated salads.
But the flaky, buttery bastilla: filo pastry stuffed with shredded saffron chicken and dusted with powdered sugar, cinnamon, and toasted almonds, was definitely one of our favorites.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the Moroccan Mint Tea arrived. Served in an elegant silver tea set with decorative glasses, it’s the perfect finish to any meal–and honestly, a whole vibe all on its own.

Lux Sucre Bakery and Cafe
Another not-to-miss stop in Wilsonville’s Charbonneau neighborhood is Lux Sucre Bakery and Café. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Chanelle and Brandon Walters, it’s hard to believe the bakery began as a small cake studio in 2016.
As popularity spread among loyal customers, so too did the dream. In 2022, they moved to their beautiful, larger space just a stone’s throw away from where they first started.
What you see today is a feast for the senses. Oh, there’s still the signature wedding cakes and custom specialty designs but add in row after row of delicate and delicious pastries that look almost too pretty to eat (but not quite).
Beyond the sweets, you’ll find scratch-made brekkie and lunch options. The menu is full of artisanal sandwiches, soups, salads, and a rotating selection of specials. A full espresso bar keeps things buzzing in the mornings, while mimosas, beer, and wine make it just as appealing as an afternoon go-to.
Everything about it feels thoughtful and welcoming. Bright, pink-accented, and perfectly charming, the space sets the stage for any photos, events, or happenings. From elegant displays to the smallest details, like the most adorable throw pillow shaped like a baguette that looks so real you could eat it. The colorful floral wall mural is pure icing on the cake. Plus, they have a great sense of humor, with funny neon signs sprinkled throughout.
A refresh to the outdoor patio means they’re ready for summer. Now fully covered, the setup gives guests a comfortable place to enjoy concerts, sweet treats, and savory fare, no matter what the Northwest weather has in mind.
“We’re incredibly excited about the patio this season,” bakery manager Baylee Utley shared. “It’s created a space where guests can relax, enjoy great food and music, and feel comfortable rain or shine.”
Look for the addition of a monthly afternoon English tea to up the ante on a cozy yet refined experience. “As we look ahead to the coming year, we’re excited to introduce a monthly afternoon English tea—something cozy, elegant, and truly special that we can’t wait to share with our guests,” Baylee added.
As this neighborhood treasure continues to grow, it remains true to its roots while deepening its connection to the sweet little neighborhood it calls home, and will have you asking, ‘Why haven’t I been here?’
